ITV’s Six Four moved Hideo Yokoyama’s bestselling Japanese thriller to Scotland. Kevin McKidd and Vinette Robinson play parents whose daughter goes missing, and the case drags up an unsolved kidnapping from years before.
We supplied the camera package for the series. Director of Photography Mattias Nyberg BSC chose the Sony Venice for its warm colour response. He used it in Rialto mode, with the sensor block separated from the body, to get into tight rooms and cars. After testing lenses with director Ben A. Williams, he paired it with our ARRI Signature Primes.
For the softer skin tones and gentle halation in the highlights, Mattias used a custom Tiffen filter that combined a ½ Smoque and a ⅛ Black Pro-Mist in one piece of glass. The result is restrained and tense: warm skin, deep shadows that still hold detail, and wide frames that leave the characters small in their surroundings.
The series was shot across Scotland in the summer of 2022: Glasgow Central, Edinburgh Waverley, a remote cottage in the Southern Uplands and the ruins of an old lead mine for the finale.
