Productions are under more pressure than ever to cut their carbon, and the kit they hire is part of that. Here’s what we’re doing about it, and how we can help your shoot.
Albert-certified supplier
We’re an accredited Albert supplier, so we’re recognised by the screen industry’s own sustainability body. If your production is working towards Albert certification, hiring from us helps.
Swap the diesel generator for a battery
Our green generators give you mains power on location with zero emissions, no fumes and very little noise. So they’re just as good for the climate as they are for your sound recordist. They charge from the mains, from solar, or (the Goat) from a Type 2 EV charger, and you can use them while they charge. We supply them fully charged and charge ours here on 100% renewable electricity.
- NXTGENbps Goat: 5kW / 4.8kWh, IP67 rated, expandable to 139kWh with Billy Goat packs. It charges from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes on a 7kW EV charger.
- NXTGENbps Billy Goat: a 9.6kWh expansion for the Goat
- NXTGENbps Bat: 2.5kWh with 3.6kW peak, at just 25kg
- NXTGENbps Swift: 3.6kW / 2.2kWh, which you can daisy-chain, plus the Swift expansion unit
- DJI Power 1000 V2: a compact power station that fully charges in 56 minutes
Where they’ve been:
- The Incomer: our Goats powered Louis Paxton’s Scottish feature, starring Domhnall Gleeson and Gayle Rankin, on location in the Highlands.
- Balamory: our Bat went out on Mull alongside the camera kit we supply for the CBeebies revival.
- Shetland: our Bat has been on location with the next series for BBC One.
And they go out on smaller shoots all the time.
Not sure what size you need? Tell us what you’re running and for how long, and we’ll work it out with you.
LED lighting
Most of our lighting range is LED. LEDs draw a fraction of the power of tungsten, so they pair well with battery power on location.
Cutting our own footprint
- Our premises run on 100% renewable electricity from Octopus Energy.
- In 2025, our CO2 emissions from gas and diesel were 11.27 tonnes. That’s a 44% cut from the roughly 20 tonnes a year we produced before 2023. Most of that came from building a mezzanine in our premises, which let us remove a very inefficient heating system.
- We’ve offset 42 tonnes a year through tree planting since 2022, three times our current emissions, and we’ve renewed that for 2026. Our partner, Make It Wild, plants native woodland for us in Yorkshire.
- We’ve signed up to the UK Business SME Climate Hub net zero campaign, and we’re committed to reaching net zero by 2040 at the latest.
Repair, reuse, recycle
Hire is reuse by design: every item goes out again and again, rather than being bought for one job. We work to keep it that way for as long as possible.
- Checked after every hire, and serviced and repaired throughout its working life by our in-house engineering team or a specialist engineer. We repair customers’ kit too.
- A second life. When an item can’t stay in our hire fleet, we assess it individually. If it still works, it’s refurbished or sold on as used equipment. If it doesn’t, it’s broken down for spare parts to keep other kit running.
- Recycled properly. Anything that can’t be repaired, refurbished or resold goes to Biffa, our WEEE-compliant recycling partner.
- All our kit travels in flight cases that are reused until they fall apart. No single-use packaging.
- We recycle everything we can.
People matter too
We’re an accredited Living Wage employer, and we’re independent and Scottish owned.
